Sessions and Usage

Sessions & Usage shows how many BusinessObjects logon sessions there were per day or week, when people log on, and who uses the platform.

What it answers

  • How many sessions per day does each environment carry, and which day was the peak?
  • How many distinct users and people logged on in the window?
  • How long is a typical session?
  • At which hours and on which weekdays do sessions start?
  • Who logs on most, on how many days, and when was each user last seen?

Open it

In the BusinessObjects console, select Insights > Sessions & Usage.

Filters

Filter Values Effect
Environments one button per environment Limits every panel.
Window 30d, 90d, 180d, 365d (default 90) The period counted.
People + service accounts / People only toggle With People only, service-account sessions are excluded everywhere.
Day / Week segmented control on the trend chart Buckets the trend by day or by week.

Panels

Panel What it shows Source
Sessions Logon sessions in the window; the note gives the service-account share. Audit data (logon and logoff events)
Sessions per day Average sessions per day over the window. Audit data
Peak day The day with the most sessions and its count. Audit data
Users Distinct users who logged on, and how many are people. Audit data
Median session Median session length in minutes; the note counts sessions with no logoff recorded. Audit data
Sessions per day / Sessions per week Stacked columns, people versus service accounts. Audit data
When sessions start Day of week by hour heatmap, in server time. Audit data
Who uses BO One row per user and environment: service account flag, sessions, active days, sessions per active day, hours, average session minutes, last seen, first seen (hidden column). Audit data

Session length is logoff minus logon, capped at 24 hours. Sessions with no matching logoff are counted, but their length is unknown.

Requires audit data

This page reads BusinessObjects audit logon events. An environment without auditing shows no sessions. See Audit and CMS Databases.
