Initial Setup in MMA

Configure a new installation in the MetaMiner Administrator (MMA): license, database, first BusinessObjects environment, memory, then start the server.

Before you begin

  • The full installer has finished on this host. See Install the Server.
  • You have the license file, the CMS host and the BusinessObjects service account. See Accounts and Permissions.
  • You are a local administrator on the host.

Steps

Open the MetaMiner Administrator

  1. Start MetaMiner Admin from the Start menu, or run server\MetaMinerAdmin.exe. Accept the Windows elevation prompt. On a new installation the main window opens with no environments.

Select the license

  1. If MMA finds no valid license, the Choose License File dialog opens in server\licenses. Select your .lic or .l4j file and click Open. The License section shows the file path with a green status, and the title bar shows the edition.

For details and renewal, see Apply a License Key.

Check the MetaMiner Database

  1. In MetaMiner Database Configuration, keep Postgres (embedded) unless you prepared an external PostgreSQL server. To change it, click Configure MMDB. See Choose the MetaMiner Database.

Add the first BusinessObjects environment

  1. When the environment list is empty, the Add SAP BusinessObjects Environment dialog opens by itself. Otherwise use the add button above the environment list.
  2. Under BusinessObjects System Configuration, enter:

    Field Enter
Display name: A name users will recognize, for example BI4 - Production Europe
CMS Host: The CMS host name
BI LaunchPad: The BI launch pad URL, starting with https:// if your web tier uses SSL
Username: / Password: The BusinessObjects service account, for example MetaMinerAdmin
Use WinAD auth: Select only if the account is a Windows AD account

Leave REST API URL on automatic discovery unless your web tier needs a custom URL.

  3. Optional: on the Audit DB tab, select Retrieve Audit Data? and enter the audit database connection. On the CMS DB tab, select Use live connection to the CMS RDBMS? and enter the CMS database connection. Use read-only accounts.

  4. Click Test Connection, then save the environment. The environment appears in the list with its status.

Every field and tab of this dialog is described in Add an Environment.

Set memory and e-mail

  1. Open Preferences > Settings....
  2. On System, set the server memory for your landscape. See Memory and JVM.
  3. On Email, enter the SMTP server and recipients for diagnostic and alert e-mail. See Email settings.
  4. Confirm the settings dialog to save. If the server is already running, MMA offers to restart it.

Start the server

  1. Click Start Server. MMA saves the configuration and starts the metaminer service. On the first start the server creates the embedded database and its InfolytikPostgres service, then starts the Web Apps service. The button changes to Stop Server when the service runs.

Verify

  • The environment row shows a successful validation status.
  • server\logs\slc.log contains MetaMiner Service for Windows® started.
  • Continue with Verify the First Pull.

Troubleshooting

Unable to detect your CMS version

The account cannot read the version information. Use an account in the BusinessObjects Administrators group.

Host is not found or down / Authentication failed

Check the CMS host name, the firewall path to the CMS port, and the account name and password. See Connection Problems.

Server Start Failed

Open File > Open MetaMiner Service Log and read the last start attempt. Common causes: no valid license, the server port is already in use, the embedded database cannot start. See Startup and Upgrade Problems.

MMA warns that available memory is low

The configured server memory exceeds what the host has free. Lower it on Preferences > Settings... > System, or free memory on the host.
