Upgrade FAQ¶
Answers to common questions about installing new MetaMiner releases.
Before the upgrade¶
Do I need to uninstall the old version first?
No. Run the new full installer into the existing folder. It replaces the program files and keeps your configuration, licenses, logs and MetaMiner Database.
What should I back up?
server\config\, server\licenses\, server\MetaMinerServer.properties (if present) and the MetaMiner Database. See Installing New Releases.
Can I skip releases?
Yes, with the full installer. The update installer only works from build 6462 or later. See Full and Update Installers.
I put a custom file in server\lib. Will it survive?
Not with the full installer: it deletes server\lib and client\lib before installing. Keep a copy and re-apply it after the upgrade.
During and after the upgrade¶
Does the installer stop and start MetaMiner?
It stops the MetaMiner services, the embedded database and any MetaMiner programs on the host. It never starts them again. Start the server from the MetaMiner Administrator when the installer finishes.
Will my service account be kept?
Yes. If the metaminer service logs on with a custom account, the installer leaves its registration unchanged.
Why does the first start take longer?
The server applies database schema updates for the new release at its first start. The time depends on the size of the MetaMiner Database.
Do clients need to be upgraded?
Yes. Client and server must be the same build; otherwise the client shows "Incompatible Versions". Install the matching client-only installer on each workstation.
Are my client memory settings kept?
Yes. The installer carries over the -Xms, -Xmx and -D lines of client\MetaMiner.ini.
How do I go back to the previous release?
Restore the backups taken before the upgrade (configuration and MetaMiner Database), then run the full installer of the previous build. A database upgraded by a newer release is not guaranteed to work with an older one, so always restore the database backup.

How do I disable notifications for a specific environment?
