Filters and Search

Every tree tab in the MetaMiner Client (MMC) combines a quick search box, a filter pane and the Find menu so you can narrow thousands of objects down to the ones you need.

How it works

Filtering runs in the client on the data already loaded, so it does not load the MetaMiner Server (MMS). Quick search and the filter pane apply together: a row is shown only when it passes both. Parent folders of matching rows stay visible so you can see where each match lives.

The quick search box sits at the left of each tab's toolbar. Press Ctrl+F (Find > Quick Search Control) to jump to it.

  • Type part of a name. The tree shows rows whose name contains the text.
  • The box remembers recent searches; open its drop-down to reuse one.
  • Clear the box to remove the search.
Control What it does
Strict Off: when a folder matches, all its children are shown. On: children are still filtered even when their parent matches.
Expand all Expands every node of the tree
Collapse all Collapses the tree to the first level

Filter pane

The filter pane is the collapsible panel on the left of a tab. Each section filters on one attribute, for example document type, owner, created or updated date, universe or connection.

Action How
Show or hide the pane View > Filter Pane (Ctrl+E) or the pane's collapse arrow
Clear every filter of the tab View > Reset All Filters (Ctrl+R) or Reset all filters in the pane
Open the pane automatically Tick Expand Filter Pane on Startup in Preferences
Hide environments with no match Tick Hide Empty Environments on Filtering in Preferences

The filters differ per tab:

Folder scope

To limit the tree to one folder, right-click the folder and choose Show This Folder Only. The CMS Explorer filter pane then shows Show marked folder only, which hides everything that is not under the marked folder. Untick it to return to the full tree.

Find by ID or CUID

Use the Find menu when you know an object's identifier, for example from an audit record or a log.

  1. Choose Find > Find Objects by ID... (Ctrl+I) or Find > Find Objects by CUID....
  2. Enter the numeric object ID or the CUID.
  3. Keep Reset all filters before search ticked unless you want to search only the rows the current filters show.
  4. Click OK. Matching objects are selected and scrolled into view. If nothing matches, the client reports Not Found.
