Installation Overview¶
The path from a prepared Windows server to a MetaMiner installation that is pulling your first BusinessObjects environment.
How it works¶
One installer (the full installer) puts the MetaMiner Server, the MetaMiner Administrator and the MetaMiner Client on the server host and registers the Windows services. You then configure everything in the MetaMiner Administrator: license, database, environments. Client workstations get the client-only installer.

Times are estimates.
Before you begin¶
Have these ready before you start the installer:
- A 64-bit Windows Server host with local administrator rights.
- The MetaMiner license file from Infolytik.
- The CMS host name and port of each BusinessObjects environment.
- A dedicated BusinessObjects account (for example
MetaMinerAdmin) in the Administrators group. - Optional: audit database and CMS database connection details with read-only accounts.
- Firewall rules from the MetaMiner host to the CMS and from workstations to the MetaMiner host on TCP 49714.

Frequently asked questions¶
Which BusinessObjects account does MetaMiner use?
The one you enter for each environment in the MetaMiner Administrator. Use a dedicated account in the Administrators group. See Accounts and Permissions.
Do I need to connect the audit and CMS databases?
No, both are optional. Without the audit database you lose usage history, user activity and the history of deleted content. A read-only CMS database connection speeds up pulls on large systems. See Audit and CMS Databases.
Will MetaMiner write to my CMS, audit or CMS database?
Pulls only read. MetaMiner changes BusinessObjects content only when a user runs an action such as a remap or promotion, and then through the BusinessObjects SDK. It never writes to the audit or CMS database; use read-only database accounts for both.
