Universe Remap¶
Point the data providers of Web Intelligence documents at a different universe or SAP BEx query, in bulk, from the CMS Explorer.
License and permission
- The remap commands appear only when your MetaMiner license includes universe remapping. Without it, the Remap Universes... entries are not in the Modify menu at all. See Editions and Licensing.
- Each selected document needs the Remap Universe permission on its environment (MetaMiner Administrator role setting). See Permissions Reference.
- The MetaMiner Server performs the change in the BI platform with the account configured for that environment, so that account needs edit rights on the documents.
How it works¶
You select one or more Web Intelligence documents, choose a target universe (or BEx query) for each data provider, and confirm. The MetaMiner Server then processes the documents one by one on the BI platform:
- Optionally copies the document first (see Make a copy first).
- Changes the data provider source to the target you picked and saves the document.
- Returns a result row per document: success or failure with the error text.
If a copy was made and the remap of that copy fails, the server deletes the failed copy. The original document is not touched when you work on copies.

Two remap commands¶
Both commands are under right-click > Modify on Web Intelligence documents.
| Command | Use it when | What you map |
|---|---|---|
| Remap Universes... | The target universe has the same objects as the source (for example a copy of the universe on another connection). | One target universe or BEx query per data provider. Objects are matched by the BI platform. |
| Remap Universes with mapping | Object names or structure differ between source and target. | One target per data provider, plus a target object for each result object (or remove it). |
Both open the Universe Remapper dialog. The tree lists each selected document, its data providers, and (with mapping) the objects each data provider uses. The columns are Original Universe, Target Universe and Status.

Before you begin¶
- Load the environment in the MetaMiner Client and open the CMS Explorer.
- Make sure the target universe or BEx query exists in the same environment and has been pulled by MetaMiner.
- Decide whether to work on copies. Remapping changes the documents in place unless you copy first.
Steps¶
Remap Universes¶
- In the CMS Explorer, select one or more Web Intelligence documents.
- Right-click and choose Modify > Remap Universes.... The Universe Remapper dialog opens.
- Right-click a data provider and choose Select Target Universe... (or double-click the row). For an SAP BW source choose Select Target BEx Query....
- Pick the target in the chooser. The Target Universe column shows your choice.
- Repeat for every data provider you want to change. Rows without a target are left as they are.
- Optional: tick Copy Webi reports before remap operation and pick a Copy name pattern.
- Click OK to run and wait for the results, or Run in Background to receive the results by e-mail.
Remap Universes with mapping¶
- Select the documents and choose Modify > Remap Universes with mapping.
- Set the target universe or BEx query for each data provider as above.
- Expand the data provider. For each object, right-click and choose:
- Change Mapping (or double-click) to pick the target object in the target universe. Tick Apply to all same-sourced documents in the chooser to reuse this mapping for every selected document that uses the same source object.
- Remove to drop the object from the query. The target column shows
<will be removed>.
- Objects that still need a decision show
<please select a mapping>. - Click OK or Run in Background.

UNX to UNV is not supported
You can remap from a .unv universe to a .unx universe, but not from .unx back to .unv. The dialog stops you with Unsupported Remapping if you pick such a target.
Make a copy first¶
Tick Copy Webi reports before remap operation to remap a copy instead of the original. The server names each copy with the Copy name pattern:
| Pattern | Copy is named |
|---|---|
Copy of %NAME% |
"Copy of" plus the original document name |
Copy of %ID% |
"Copy of" plus the original object ID |
Copy of %CUID% |
"Copy of" plus the original CUID |
The client remembers the checkbox between sessions.
TODO: confirm the folder in which the copy is created
Expected: the same folder as the original document. Verify on a test environment.
Verify¶
- The Universe Remapper Results dialog lists every document with SUCCESS or FAILED and the error message.
- With Run in Background, the client shows Background Job Is in Progress ("You will get the results by e-mail.") and the task appears in the status bar task history. See Refresh and Background Tasks.
- After the next pull, the documents show the new universe in the CMS Explorer Universes filter and in Relationships and Structure.

TODO: confirm which e-mail address receives Run in Background results
Expected: the address configured for the MetaMiner user or the server notification address (MMA > Preferences > Settings > Email). Verify on a test server.
Troubleshooting¶
The Remap Universes entries are missing from the Modify menu
Your license does not include universe remapping, or the selection contains objects that are not Web Intelligence documents. Check Help > About for the license and select only Web Intelligence documents.
The entries are greyed out
Your MetaMiner role lacks Remap Universe on at least one environment of the selection. Ask your MetaMiner administrator.
A document fails with a refresh or rights error
The service account of the environment must be able to open, edit and save the document, and must see the target universe and its connection. Fix the rights in the CMC and run the remap again for the failed documents only.
Next steps¶
- Connection Remap
- Repoint Reports to a New Database
- Visual Diff to compare a document before and after the remap
