Filter Panel

The filter panel on the left of the CMS Explorer narrows the tree to the objects that match every filter you set.

How filters work

  • Each pane filters on one attribute. Filters in different panes combine with AND.
  • A pane with an active filter shows the filter count in its title. Each pane has its own reset control.
  • View > Reset All Filters (Ctrl+R) clears every pane and the quick search box.
  • View > Filter Pane (Ctrl+E) shows or hides the panel. To open it expanded at startup, turn on Expand Filter Pane on Startup in File > Preferences....
  • Filters apply to the local tree only. They do not change anything in BusinessObjects.

The quick search box above the tree (Ctrl+F) filters by name and works together with the panel. See Filters and Search.

Panes

Show folders only

Show folders only keeps containers of type Folder, Category, Personal Category, Favorites Folder and Inbox.

Mark a folder

  1. Right-click a folder.
  2. Choose Show This Folder Only. The folder becomes the marked folder and Show marked folder only is applied in the Folders pane.

Result: the tree hides everything that is not under the marked folder. Untick Show marked folder only to see the full tree again.

Strict mode

The Strict check box next to the quick search box controls how filters treat children: when Strict is on, children are still filtered even if their parent already matches.

Use filters with other features

  • Export: the toolbar export (CSV, Excel) writes only the rows currently shown. See Toolbar and Export.
  • Export to Meta Query: turns the active filters into a SQL query in the Meta Query tab. See Meta Query.
  • Selections: the selector next to the export button selects all, folders only, folder contents only, instances only, non-instances only or universes only among the shown rows.

Troubleshooting

The tree is empty after I set a filter

Check the pane titles for active filters and press Ctrl+R to reset all filters. If Hide Empty Environments on Filtering is on in Preferences, environments with no matching rows are hidden.

An object I expect is missing

The tree shows what the last pull collected. If the object was created after the last pull, refresh with F5 or wait for the next pull. See Refresh and Background Tasks.
