Reports and Data¶
Run the MetaMiner standard report pack, query the MetaMiner Database (MMDB) directly, and find the SQL scripts and monitoring dashboards that ship with MetaMiner.
The standard report pack is a set of 22 Web Intelligence documents that read the metadata MetaMiner collects from your BusinessObjects environments. Each report page lists what the report answers, its tabs, columns, prompts, input controls and drill links.
Standard report catalog¶
Report codes start with the family letter: A (audit), W (Web Intelligence), C (Crystal Reports), D (documents), U (universe) and S (server). In BI launch pad each document name starts with its code, for example [MM-A01] Audit - Object Activity Summary.
Audit reports (A)¶
Who did what, when: activity per object, per user and per event, from the BusinessObjects audit data MetaMiner collects.
-
[MM-A01] Object Activity Summary
Counts audited actions per object and month, for the number of days you choose.
-
[MM-A02] User Activity Summary
Counts audited actions and sessions per user and month, for the number of days you choose.
-
Lists individual audit events with their date, time, user, object and duration.
Web Intelligence reports (W)¶
Where universe objects are used inside Web Intelligence documents, the SQL each data provider sends, and query time and row counts.
-
Shows which universe objects and other data source objects are used in which Web Intelligence documents, and how often.
-
[MM-W11] Object Use per Object
Shows, object by object, which Web Intelligence documents and data providers use each universe object.
-
Shows every place a universe object is used inside Web Intelligence documents: report tab, element, variable and expression.
-
Lists the SQL of each Web Intelligence data provider, with row counts and refresh times, and finds documents whose SQL contains a search term.
-
Shows the query time and row count of each Web Intelligence data provider, and the database tables and columns its SQL uses.
Crystal Reports reports (C)¶
Business Views, prompt groups, tables, fields, database users, servers and command text used by Crystal Reports.
-
Lists the Business Views your Crystal Reports use, and which reports use each one.
-
[MM-C12] Business View Dictionary
Describes each Business View layer by layer: data connections, data foundation, tables, fields, business elements and business fields.
-
[MM-C13] Prompt Group Field Use
Shows which Business View fields feed the prompt groups of your Crystal Reports.
-
Lists the database tables and fields each Crystal Report uses.
-
Lists the database user names your Crystal Reports connect with, original and overridden.
-
Lists the database servers your Crystal Reports connect to, original and overridden.
-
Lists the SQL command text of your Crystal Reports and finds reports whose command text contains a search term.
Documents reports (D)¶
Documents of every type with their data sources and last activity.
-
[MM-D01] Activity and Data Source
Lists documents of every type with their data providers, universes or connections, and when and by whom they were last touched.
Universe reports (U)¶
Universe dictionary and unused universe objects.
-
Describes UNV and UNX universes in full: summary, objects, joins, contexts, tables and restrictions.
-
[MM-U10] Unused Objects Summary
Summarises, per universe, how many of its objects Web Intelligence documents actually use.
-
Lists every object of the selected UNV universes and whether any Web Intelligence document uses it.
-
Lists every object of the selected UNX universes and whether any Web Intelligence document uses it.
-
[MM-U13] Unused Objects Detail
Lists, document by document, the universe objects each Web Intelligence data provider returns and whether the report layer uses them.
Server reports (S)¶
Server status, configuration and metrics.
-
Shows the status, configuration settings and latest metrics of the servers in your BusinessObjects environments.
Data and catalogs¶
-
The MMDB schemas and the main BusinessObjects tables.
-
Connect a SQL client or BI tool to the MMDB with a read-only login.
-
Install the universe that sits on top of the MMDB and build your own Web Intelligence reports.
-
The ready-made SQL scripts that ship with MetaMiner and the downloadable examples.
-
Load your own CSV or Excel files into MMDB tables and join them to MetaMiner metadata.
Pulse monitoring¶
-
The Grafana-based Pulse dashboards and how they relate to the newer Monitor web app.
-
The dashboards Pulse provides for BusinessObjects servers, sessions and scheduling.
-
Threshold alerts in Pulse, and when to use MetaMiner Alerts instead.
How the reports are delivered¶
The standard reports are Web Intelligence documents built on the MetaMiner Standard universe, a UNX universe over the MMDB. You import them into a BusinessObjects environment and refresh them like any other document.
TODO: confirm how the standard report pack is distributed
The server installer ships only the universe, as server\support\MetaMiner Standard Universe_16_MAY_2021-LATEST.lcmbiar; the 22 report documents are not in the installer. Confirm whether the report pack is a separate LCMBIAR supplied by Infolytik Support, and its file name.
To make the reports work:
- Install the MetaMiner Standard Universe and its PostgreSQL connection.
- Import the report pack into the same environment with Promotion Management in the Central Management Console (CMC).
- Make sure MetaMiner collects the data each report family reads:
| Report family | Data MetaMiner must collect | Where to set it |
|---|---|---|
| Audit (MM-A01 to MM-A03) | Audit events from the BusinessObjects audit database | Audit and CMS Databases, Audit settings |
| Web Intelligence (MM-W10 to MM-W20) | Web Intelligence document processing | Document Processing |
| Crystal Reports (MM-C11 to MM-C17) | Crystal Reports document processing | Document Processing |
| Documents (MM-D01) | Documents, plus Web Intelligence and Crystal Reports processing and audit data | Document Processing |
| Universe (MM-U01 to MM-U13) | Universe processing, plus Web Intelligence processing for object use | Document Processing |
| Server (MM-S01) | Server status, configuration and metrics (Pull Server Metrics) | Pull settings |
TODO: confirm the Web Intelligence and universe reports with REST-based document processing
MM-W10 to MM-W20, MM-U01, MM-U10 to MM-U13 and MM-D01 read the Web Intelligence detail written by the default (SDK-based) document processing. Confirm whether they show documents when an environment uses REST-based Web Intelligence processing instead.
Common prompts¶
Most reports share a cascading set of prompts: each prompt limits the list of values of the next one. Leave an optional prompt empty to include everything.
| Prompt | Answer | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| Environments | Optional, pick one or more | Lists the CMSIDs of your environments with their description. In every report. |
| FolderTypes | Optional, pick one or more | In document-based reports. Cascades from Environments. |
| FolderPath | Required, one value | In document-based reports. Matched with LIKE; % includes all folders. |
| Folders | Optional, pick one or more | In document-based reports. Lists folders that match the prompts above. |
| Universes | Optional, pick one or more | In universe and some Web Intelligence reports. Lists the universes of the selected environments. |
| Include MetaMinerAdmin Ids | Required, one value | In the audit reports. No leaves out audit events caused by the MetaMiner account. |
| AuditObjectCUIDs, DocumentCUIDs, UniverseCUID | Optional | Filled in by drill links between reports. Leave empty when you refresh a report yourself. |

Common input controls¶
Every report has display controls that change how it shows its data, and filter controls that narrow the rows. Each report page lists its own set.
| Input control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Prompt Selection | Shows or hides the block under the header that lists your prompt answers. Spaced (default), Show or Hide. |
| Environment / CMSID | Shows environments in the report body by display name or by CMSID. Filters and prompts always list CMSIDs. |
| Folder / Complete | Shows the folder name or the complete folder path. |
| Number Format | Switches large numbers to a short format, for example K for 1,000s. |
| Expand, Expand? | Shows long multi-value fields in full, or shortens them to one row. |
| Environment, Folder, Universe, Document | Filter the rows to the values you pick. |

Drill links¶
Many reports carry links that open a related report with the prompts already answered: for example from an object in MM-A01 to its events in MM-A03, or from a universe in MM-U10 to its unused objects in MM-U11 or MM-U12. Each report page lists its drill links.
TODO: confirm that drill links survive import into another environment
The drill links point to their target reports by CUID. Confirm that Promotion Management keeps the CUIDs when the pack is imported, so the links work without editing.
Chapter status¶
- reports/overview.md - distribution of the report pack (file name, channel) is unconfirmed
- reports/overview.md - Web Intelligence and universe reports with REST-based processing unconfirmed
- MM-A01 to MM-S01 - filter input controls checked against the report variables, not by a live refresh; layout, prompt and input-control screenshots to be retaken
- pulse/pulse-alerting-for-businessobjects.md - steps describe an older Grafana alerting interface
- metaminer-tips/metaminer-universe-sapbi4.md - universe file date and client tool bitness need re-checking for current BusinessObjects versions
