[MM-U01] Universe Dictionary

Describes UNV and UNX universes in full: summary, objects, joins, contexts, tables and restrictions.

Web Intelligence document [MM-U01] Universe Dictionary from the MetaMiner standard report pack. It reads the MetaMiner Database (MMDB) through the MetaMiner Standard universe. See Reports and Data.

What it answers

  • What a universe contains: classes, objects, their SQL and descriptions.
  • How tables are joined, and which contexts each join belongs to.
  • Which objects are hidden, and which are used in Web Intelligence documents.
  • Which access restrictions apply to which users and groups.

Who uses it: Universe designers documenting, reviewing or migrating universes.

Report tabs

Tab Shows
Summary One row per universe: folder, author, description, created and modified.
Objects Classes and objects with type, qualification, data type, SELECT and WHERE expressions, descriptions and use counts.
Joins Joins with left and right tables and columns, expression, cardinality, outer settings and contexts.
Contexts Contexts and the joins they contain.
Tables Tables, columns and derived table SQL.
Restrictions Access restrictions (overloads) and the users or groups they apply to.
Objects (Wide) The Objects tab with more columns per row.

Classes and objects Class, Class Lineage, Class is Hidden?, Object, Object Type, Qualification, Data Type, Aggregate Function, Select Expression, Where Expression, Description, Object is Hidden?, Object is Used?, Object is Used in Report Layer?, Object is Used (Webi Doc Count)
Joins and contexts Join tables and columns (left and right), Join Expression, Join Cardinality, outer settings, Join is a Shortcut Join?, Join Context List, Context, Context Description

Prompts

Prompt Required Answer What it does
Environments No Pick one or more Environments to include, listed by CMSID with their description. Leave empty for all. The prompts below list only values from the environments you pick.
Universes No Pick one or more Universes to include.
Objects No Pick one or more Universe objects to include.
UniverseCUID No Pick one Universe CUID, normally filled in by a drill link from another report. Leave empty when you refresh the report yourself.

Input controls

Display controls change how the report shows its data:

Input control What it does
Prompt Selection Shows or hides the block under the header that lists your prompt answers. Spaced (default) shows it with a space between list items, Show shows it without spacing, Hide hides it.
Environment / CMSID Shows environments in the report body by display name or by CMSID. Filters and prompts always list CMSIDs.
Expand? Shows long multi-value fields in full, or shortens them to one row.
Class / Class Lineage Shows the class name or its full path of parent classes.

Filter controls keep only the rows that match the values you pick: Environment, Uni Folder, Universe, Class, Class is Hidden?, Object, Object is Hidden?.

Link Opens
Object use drill Opens [MM-W10] Object Use Overview for that universe and object.
Unused objects drill Opens [MM-U13] Unused Objects Detail for that universe.

A drill link opens the target report through BI launch pad OpenDocument and passes the environment and the selected item as prompt answers.

Run the report

  1. In BI launch pad, open [MM-U01] Universe Dictionary from the folder where you imported the standard report pack.
  2. Refresh the document and answer the prompts.
  3. Use the input controls to change the display or narrow the results.

Data it needs: Universe processing (UNV and UNX) plus Web Intelligence document processing, which records where each object is used. See Document Processing.
