Install the Server

Run the full installer on the MetaMiner server host to install the MetaMiner Server, the MetaMiner Administrator and (optionally) the MetaMiner Client, and to register the Windows services.

Before you begin

  • A 64-bit Windows Server host that meets the System Requirements, with outbound HTTPS to the Microsoft endpoints of your cloud.
  • Local administrator rights on that host.
  • The full installer, MetaMiner-ENTERPRISE-windows-x64-5.2.<build>.exe, copied to a local disk (see below).
  • The license file from Infolytik, with the Power BI module enabled. You select it after installation.
  • If you upgrade an existing installation: a backup of server\config\ and of the MetaMiner Database. See Installing New Releases.

Get the installer

The installer ends running MetaMiner programs on this host

It stops the MetaMiner services and closes any MetaMiner Client or Administrator running on the host, including other users' sessions. Ask those users to save their work first.

Steps

  1. Right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator. Accept the Windows elevation prompt. The welcome screen opens.
  2. Click Next, read the license agreement, accept it and click Next.
  3. Choose the installation directory. The default is C:\Program Files\Infolytik\MetaMiner. Click Next.

  4. Select the components. Keep MetaMiner Server selected. Keep MetaMiner Client selected if administrators will also run the client on this host. Click Next.

  5. Choose the Start menu folder and click Next. The installer copies the files. It first stops any running MetaMiner services and processes, including the embedded database, then installs the bundled Java runtime and the program files, registers the Windows services and reserves the MetaMiner ports.

  6. On the last screen, optionally select Run MetaMiner Admin and click Finish.

The installer registers these services and does not start any of them:

Service Purpose
metaminer MetaMiner Server
MetaMinerWebApps Power BI Usage dashboards and other web apps
MetaMinerFSS Tableau flow scheduler; not used with Fabric and Power BI

The embedded database service InfolytikPostgres (PostgreSQL 16) is created later, the first time the MetaMiner Server starts.

TODO: document unattended (silent) installation

Confirm whether silent installation is supported for customers, and if so the command-line switches and response-file variables (component selection, installation directory).

Verify

  • The folder C:\Program Files\Infolytik\MetaMiner\ contains jre\, server\ and (if selected) client\.
  • Windows Services lists metaminer and MetaMinerWebApps, both stopped.
  • server\logs\mm-port-protection.log exists and reports the port reservation.

Troubleshooting

The installer says it cannot run on this system

The installer runs only on 64-bit Windows. Use a 64-bit Windows Server host.

The service runs under a domain account and the installer did not change it

That is intended. When the existing metaminer service logs on with a custom account, the installer leaves the service registration as it is.

Port reservation reported a problem

The reservation never stops the installation. Read server\logs\mm-port-protection.log; if a default port is already taken by another program, change the MetaMiner port after installation. See Network and Microsoft Endpoints.
