Web Apps

Reference for the WebApps page of Preferences > Settings...: turn the Power BI usage dashboards on or off and limit their user-population figures to one Entra ID group.

Web apps run in the MetaMinerWebApps service and are reached through the MetaMiner Server port under /web/. When an app is off, the server answers that the app is turned off, for its pages and its data. See Enable the Dashboards.

Web apps

Field Default What it does Config key
Power BI Usage (/web/pbiusage) On Power BI usage and adoption dashboards web.pbiusage.enabled

The page also lists Tableau Usage (/web/tableauusage), BO console (/web/bo) with its Sign-in:, Service accounts: and Internal mail domains: fields, and Pulse (/web/monitor). They serve other platforms; leave them at their defaults. MetaQuery Web (/web/metaquery) is switched on the Meta Query page.

Limit who can reach the dashboards

The dashboards show tenant-wide usage, user and license data. Restrict network access to the MetaMiner Server port to the people who should see it, and enable SSL. See Network Exposure and Scope and Sign-In.

PowerBI Dashboards

By default the user-population figures of the dashboards (license waste, dormant users, never logged in, disabled but licensed, adoption denominator, license tier mix) cover the whole tenant. You can restrict them to the members of one Entra ID group, including members of nested groups. Capacity, content and usage figures are not affected.

Field Default What it does Stored in
Usergroup restricted UUID: Empty (tenant-wide) The Entra ID object ID of the group, in the form 8-4-4-4-12 hexadecimal characters. Display names are not accepted. pbiusage.scope.usergroup in server\config\webapps.json, and the usergroup parameter of the license-waste job in server\silver-jobs\
Apply - Writes the group to both places and reports how many users it resolves to -

Steps

  1. Enter the group's object ID in Usergroup restricted UUID:, or clear the field for tenant-wide figures.
  2. Click Apply.
  3. Read the status line, for example "This group currently resolves to N users".
  4. When MMA asks whether to restart the server, click Yes to rebuild the figures now, or No to let the next scheduled run rebuild them.

The dashboards pick up the setting within seconds. The user-population figures are rebuilt by the license-waste job, which runs every 6 hours, or within a minute of a server restart.

Status messages
Message Meaning and fix
Applied. / Scope: tenant-wide (no usergroup restriction). Saved
No group with that id was found in this tenant's pulled Entra groups. Check the ID, or wait until the Entra group collector has run
The group resolved to 0 users. Check the ID and that group memberships have been collected
'...' is not a usergroup id. Enter the object ID, not the name
The two configuration channels currently disagree Click Apply again to make them consistent
silver jobs are disabled (silver.jobs.enable=false) The figures will not rebuild until the dashboard jobs are enabled; see Data Retention
The silver job manifest was not found Make sure MMA runs from the server installation folder and the silver-jobs folder exists
