Browse an Archive¶
The Archive contents dialog shows what an archive holds - workspaces, objects, access lists, folders, settings and definitions - without changing anything in Power BI.
Before you begin¶
- The archive is listed in the Archives grid of the Power BI Backup tab.
- You hold the MetaMiner Tenant Admin permission.
Steps¶
-
Select an archive and click View contents, or double-click it.
The dialog opens as Archive contents -
and reads the archive on the server. Nothing is downloaded and no Microsoft sign-in is needed. -
Read the header strip: Environment, Produced by (MetaMiner client or MetaMiner scheduler), Objects (captured in workspaces plus loose), Size and Format.
-
Browse the tree on the left. The archive is the top node; under it are workspaces and loose objects, and under each workspace its objects. Tags show each object's status.
Tag Meaning captured The definition is in the archive. out-of-band Captured as a file ( .rdlormodel.json)..pbixReport data is in the archive. no data Data was asked for but not saved. whole / partial How the workspace was selected. excluded Not selected in the job; listed only. excluded (not supported) A record-only type that was not selected; listed only. not supported A record-only type: listed, never captured. -
Use the toolbar above the tree:
Control What it does Filter objects Shows only nodes whose name contains the text. Show not captured (n) Also lists objects the archive records but does not hold. Off by default. Expand all Opens every node. Collapse all Closes every node. -
Select a node to see its details on the right. The tabs depend on the node:
Node Tabs Archive Overview (name, owner, created, method, MetaMiner version, tenant, contents) Workspace Overview, Workspace access, Folders, Settings Object Overview, Definition, Item access, Depends on Any node JSON (the raw descriptor) A tab is disabled when the job did not capture that dimension. Copy and Copy raw copy the shown text or the raw JSON.
-
Click Restore to open the restore wizard for this archive, or Close.

What the object overview tells you¶
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Status, Capture method | Whether and how the object was captured. |
| Original id, Source workspace, Folder | Where it came from. |
| Definition format, Definition files | What the definition holds. |
| Dataflow kind | Gen1, Gen2 without CI/CD - a restore re-creates it as Gen1, or Gen2 (CI/CD). |
| Data, Data note, Power BI said | Whether report data was saved, and if not, why: a thin report (its data lives in its semantic model), no .pbix for that kind of report, refused by Power BI, or the export failed. |
Verify¶
The dialog footer reads Read-only - the archive stays on the server. Nothing you do in this dialog changes the archive or the tenant.
