MetaMiner for Microsoft Fabric & Power BI

MetaMiner collects the metadata, activity and capacity data of your Microsoft Fabric and Power BI tenant into one database on your own server, so you can explore, govern, back up and report on the whole tenant from one place.

What MetaMiner does

The MetaMiner Server (MMS) signs in to your tenant as a service principal that you register in Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD). On a schedule it reads workspaces, reports, semantic models, dataflows, Fabric items, lineage, data sources, apps, capacities, gateways, connections, refresh history, activity events and (optionally) Fabric Capacity Metrics and Entra users, groups and licenses into the MetaMiner Database (MMDB).

Administrators and BI teams then work with that metadata in the MetaMiner Client (MMC) and in the browser: search the tenant in the Power BI Explorer, trace impact from a data source to the reports that use it, review who has access, manage workspace access, back up and restore content, and read the Power BI Usage dashboards.

The MetaMiner Administrator (MMA) configures the server: the Power BI environment (your tenant), the database, the license and the server settings.

The background collection only reads. Changes to your tenant happen only when a signed-in person runs an action such as Manage Access or Restore, under that person's own Microsoft permissions.

How the pieces connect

  MMC[MetaMiner Client] -->|TCP 49714| MMS
  WEB[Browser] -->|dashboards, TCP 49714| MMS

All connections to Microsoft are outbound HTTPS from the MetaMiner server. Nothing is installed in your tenant, and no tenant data is sent to Infolytik.
