Network Requirements and Permissions

Information presented in this topic is dedicated primarily to system administrators who maintain your corporate local network.

MetaMiner requires the following parameters and permissions to be configured in your network:

This port is used for communication between MetaMiner Client and MetaMiner Server. The server must be accessible from the client network at this port.

You can specify any TCP port, but it is your responsibility to avoid possible conflicts and enable communication through your firewalls, proxy servers, and other network infrastructure.

Use the MetaMiner Status Page to diagnose if MetaMiner Server is accessible in your network.

Use MetaMiner Administrator to configure this setting.

Cryptographic protocol

SSL/TLS

MetaMiner proprietary protocol can be optionally encrypted.

Standard HTTP port

MetaMiner uses HTTP to open online help and to Open Web Intelligence Documents in Default Browser.

The host http://infolytik.com/ and your SAP Infoview/BI Web Server must be both accessible from the client network at this port.

Infolytik Support Service port

443

MetaMiner Client reports issues to Intolytik Support Service by using the HTTPS protocol on port 443.

The host https://support.infolytik.com/ must be accessible from the client network at this port.

Standard SMTP(S) port

25
(by default; other popular ports are 465, 587)

MetaMiner uses SMTP or SMTP Secure protocol to send outgoing email messages.

The host specified as a SMTP(S) server must be accessible from the MetaMiner Server computer at this port.

You can configure these settings in MetaMiner Administrator, see Configuring Email Notifications.

Data transfer protocol

WebSocket

All communication between MetaMiner components is running on top of the WebSocket protocol.

Your corporate firewall and/or proxy server must be configured in a way that it does not block WebSockets.

Use the MetaMiner Status Page to diagnose if WebSocket is enabled in your network.

OS user account
(MetaMiner Server and Administrator)

Decided during configuration

We recommend to install MetaMiner Server and run MetaMiner Administrator under the OS user account used to run your Server Intelligence Agent (SIA) service, or an account with the same permissions/privileges, as they will require access to similar system resources.

This user account must have the following permissions:

•	Installing programs

•	Adding, configuring, starting, and stopping system services

•	Launching MetaMinerAdmin.exe and MetaMinerServer.exe

It is recommended to include this user into the group Administrators.

By default, MetaMiner installers configures system to start MetaMiner Server service under the "Local system" account.

OS user account
(MetaMiner Client)

Decided during configuration

We recommend to install MetaMiner Client under any account with local Administrator privileges.

You can later run this component under local user accounts with normal privileges without any elevated permissions.

SAP BusinessObjects user account

Decided during configuration

We recommend to have a dedicated SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise user account with Administrator level privileges, named MetaMinerAdmin

SAP BusinessObjects port

6400

MetaMiner Server should be provisioned with the same firewall rules as any of the SAP BusinessObjects client tool workstation installations as it makes use of the same communication ports and protocols to contact the CMS and other platform services (File Input Repository server and others).

You can specify the port to use for CMS Server connection in MetaMiner Administrator, see SAP BusinessObjects Environments.

Your SAP BusinessObjects CMS Server(s) must be accessible from the MetaMiner Server host at this port.

RDBMS connection port

1433 for Microsoft SQL Server

1521 or 2483 for Oracle Database Server (insecure)

2484 for secure (SSL/TLS) Oracle connection

(commonly used values)

The server(s) hosting your database(s) must be accessible from the MetaMiner Server host at this port.

Use MetaMiner Administrator to configure this setting.

In short words, your system administrator should open TCP/IP ports 80, 443, 587, 1433/1521, 6400, and 49714 in your network.

MetaMiner is tolerant to not-static IP addresses assigned to its hosts, installed NAT servers, and other network infrastructure capacities.

If any of your users must access MetaMiner Server from outside of your Local Area Network (LAN), then consider establishing a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

MetaMiner Administrator is always installed on the same computer as MetaMiner Server and thus does not have any other specific network requirements.
